Gaurav Mazumdar is a renowned musician from Allahabad, UP. Born to the illustrious Mazumdar family of Allahabad, he reached the zenith of his music education with the legendary maestro, Pt. Ravi Shankar.

Gaurav has engaged in several collaborations with accomplished western musicians such as Daniel Hope, Philip Glass and Kenny Werner and also, composed and performed with the English Chamber Orchestra. His performances also include appearances with Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Kishan Maharaj and other renowned musicians from both the North Indian and Carnatic Music System of India.

Gaurav has also composed music for the Ballet ‘Siddhartha’ – based on the book by Nobel Laureate Hermann Hesse and was for a decade National conductor for Britain’s Youth Orchestra, ‘SAMYO’. Gaurav’s albums include, ‘Echoes from India’, ‘In Search of Peace’, 'Neemrana', 'Soul Strings', 'Grammy nominated' - 'East Meets West’, ‘Orion’(recorded live at the historic concert in the Acropolis in Greece to commemorate the 2004 Olympics), ‘Gaurav Mazumdar', 'Offerings', ‘Strings in Harmony', ‘Walking Together', ‘Shambala’ (a historic sitaar/violin double concerto), 'Colours from the Rainbow’(a composition for western orchestra) and ‘Hesse’. Gaurav recently wrote the music for the Film 'Shwet'.

Gaurav has won numerous awards, which include: All India 1st Prize at age 4 and winning it consecutively several times over the years / U.P. State Sangeet Natak Akademi Competition, 1980’s / Special Achievement Award -2002 / Grammy Nomination, U.S.A. -2004 / Bhavishya Jyoti Award -2007 and several others Today, Gaurav as a performer, composer, conductor and educator, has earned a unique place as the foremost musician of his generation contributing towards making Indian Music accessible and truly Global both in appreciation and understanding.
