Kala Arts & The Bhavan Odissi Department Present ODISSI DANCE WORKSHOP

Sushmita Pati, a senior disciple of Padmavibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Artistic director of Kala the Arts. She is an accomplished Odissi dance teacher and performer who held a successful workshop in 2016 at The Bhavan. Continuing from this event she will be holding another 3-day workshop for beginner, intermediate and advanced Odissi dancers.
The participants attending the workshops will learn some Odissi Anga Suddhi exercises and movements core to Odissi practise and then learning a beautiful composition Vakratunda Mahakaya a song on Ganesh where his presence is described as having a radiance of million suns. It's in Sanskrit based in Raag Ananda Bhairavi and Taali Ektali 4 beats.
Day One: I shall start with Odissi steppings, some Anga Suddhi exercises in the 1st hour of the workshop leading to teaching some movements and mudras and body positions in Vakratunda Mahakaya. explaining the meaning etc.
Day Two - Steppings and Anga Suddhi exercises for 20 minutes and continuing with Vakratunda and get them to sing it or hum with the rhythm.
Day three- just with the advanced and Diploma students completing the dance and practicing to music and developing Abhinaya and general performance skills.
