Following on from the immensely popular Vedic chanting summer school course in 2020, this course takes you further on the journey to learn and understand the wisdom of the ancient Vedic texts of India.
In this short course, students will learn to chant 3 texts in the traditional manner with the correct Vedic accent, and also understand the meaning of the chants. The texts chosen will allow the students to explore the deeper connection between the mantras and the Vedanta tradition.

Selected mantras from the Yajur Veda: Samhita mayi medhām , Brahmanam Agnir me Vachi, Aranyaka: Discussion of the Pancha Mahāyajña mantras , the journey from external to inner yajña


Learning the fundamental method of the Vedanta, Adhyāropa-apavāda, through the opening verses of Bhrigu Valli from the Taittirīya Upanishad . Chanting and analysis, including an introduction to the basic principles of Advaita Vedanta of Shankaracharya’s tradition 

Course Contents


Some of the oldest texts in the world, the Vedas literally mean 'knowledge' and have come down through centuries mainly through the oral tradition.

The 4 Vedas are the Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, and Atharvana Veda. The vedanta schools mainly delve into the spiritual, philosophical and metaphysical aspects of life.

 The sessions will focus on some of the key mantras. 
Each class will be practical; students will learn to chant the mantras with the correct pronunciation and intonation, learn about the origin of the mantras, and understand the meaning.

Meet the instructor


Subhanu Saxena is a widely experienced business leader who has held executive level roles in some of the world's largest corporations. He is currently a Director at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and managing partner at New Rhein Healthcare Private Equity.
Outside his business interests, Subhanu is passionate about Sanskrit, which he began studying at The Bhavan in his early 20's and the philosophy of India's ancient texts, and has trained extensively in the Vedas and Vedanta with scholars form the Sanskrit speaking village of Mattur in Karnataka, India.
Subhanu is also an executive committee member of the Bhavan.
