INTRODUCTORY BEGINNER’S COURSE

"The Bhavan is delighted to present a 10 week introductory course in Karnatic Violin by resident Violin Guru Sri. Balu Raguraman. This course is open to beginners who wish to explore the nuances of Classical Violin and perhaps are looking for a potential path for further study at the Bhavan.  

Build a strong foundation with all details starting from correct posture, bowing, sound production, and the structure of notes to the intricacies of basic ragas (melodies). Join us to delve into the mellifluous world of Karnatic Classical Violin.

Introduction to the instrument


Introduction to the basic ragas and Talas


How to play the violin strings and the basic notes on it.

    PLEASE NOTE – The students need to have a violin to attend the course. If you do not own one and need to rent a violin from us additional charges apply. This needs to be paid along with the registration to confirm that you have a violin for the course on time.

Meet the instructor

Sri. Balu Raguraman

A Fellow of Trinity College, London, Balu Raguraman is a talented Carnatic violinist who has performed extensively around the world, including appearing with musicians from Western classical, jazz and African music traditions. He is known as an innovative and adaptable musician who has worked with some of the greatest maestros of our time including the famous Dr. Balamurali Krishna, Dr. N Ramani, and Umayalpuram Shivaraman. He is also involved in The Bhavan’s special music series “Bhinna Abhinna”, a collaborative project featuring musicians from different genres and styles.
