Dr. ARUNA MOHANTY

ABOUT
Guru Dr. Aruna Mohanty is one of the finest dancers and choreographers in the field of Odissi. She has been a student and Secretary of Orissa Dance Academy, a premiere Cultural institution in Bhubaneswar. Her unique skill and versatility make her the recipient of many awards and accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from Outlook Magazine, State Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Honorary D. Litt from Rama Devi Women’s University and the 4th highest civilian award PADMASHREE.

Currently Aruna is working as the President of Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, Bhubaneswar. She has been entrusted by Govt. of India and Govt. of Odisha to choreograph opening ceremonies of Make in Odisha, World Cup Hockey, Skill Odisha Conclave, Asian Athletic Meet, Khelo India & 1st World Odia Language Conference etc.

THE COURSES
We will have two workshops with her:

1. Angahara (literally a garland of movements): Aruna ji will teach different combinations of movements and how to build sequences of movement for self-training and choreography - for all levels. Dancers of other styles are welcome as well.

ABOUT
Hailing from the Pandanallur School of Dance, Dr. Soundarya Srivathsa, a disciple of Guru Smt. Narmada and Guru Smt. Bhanumathi, is known for her precise footwork and consummate abhinaya.

A doctoral  degree awarded by Bangalore University for the thesis on the 'Application of classical Dnace forms in South indian Cinema.'

'Thyagaraja', 'Padmanabha Namostutae', 'Jagadanandakaraka', 'Ambae', 'Draupadi', 'Maitreyi', 'Sister Nivedita' and 'Sapthagiri' are some of the highly successful dance productions that she choreographed. she teaches at the Jain University as a guest faculty for the post graduate students in dance.

Aong with her singer-husband, D.S Srivathsa, she heads the institute NARTANA KEERTANA Centre for Performing Arts.

Dr. ABHAY SHANKAR MISHRA

Dr. Abhay Shankar Mishra is one of the leading exponents of Kathak dance in the UK and in the world today. A mesmerizing performer, dynamic teacher, and creative choreographer of Kathak, Abhay currently lives and works in India. Born into a family steeped in musical tradition and trained under world-renownedGurus, namely Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, Smt Urmila Nagar Ji and late Pandit Pandey Maharaj, Abhay had the unique experience of learning all three of the major Gharanas of Kathak, i.e., Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras.

He draws on his vast experience to achieve a beautiful blend of all three Gharanas in his work.

Vidushi SURANJANA BOSE

Vidushi Suranjana Bose is a renowned Indian Classical Vocalist of the Patiala and Benaras Gharanas. She trained under Pandit Hariprasad Das, Late Pandit Prasun Bandyopadhay, Late Vidushi Meera Bandyopadhay, and Late Padmabibhushan Dr. Girija Devi. She also learned Bengali songs from Purabi Dutta and others.

A Top-Grade artist of All India Radio, Vidushi Bose performs Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan, Nazrulgeeti, and Raagpradhan songs. She founded Shruti School of Music and has performed at prestigious events like Dover Lane Music Festival and Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan, as well as internationally in the UK, USA, and Canada.

Sri. SAMPATH KUMARACHARY DARURI

A Karnatic Vocalist, musicologist, and a teacher with over 35 years of experience, Sampath Kumarachary Daruri hails from a family of musicians. Having trained meticulously under his father Late Sri. Daruri Ratnamacharyulu and later under the Hyderabad brothers, Sampath has carved his own niche with over 400 performances across the world. He has authored three books on music ‘Sangeetamrutam’, ‘Keertanavali’, and ‘Pancharatnakeertanas’ which are used widely by artists and his own students who come from India, USA, and New Zealand. He aims to inspire the current generation with the beauty of Karnatic Classical Music.

A Fellow of Trinity College, London, Balu Raguraman is a talented Carnatic violinist who has performed extensively around the world, including appearing with some of the stalwarts of the south Indian classical tradition. He is known as a very adaptable musician who has worked with some of the greatest maestros and dancers of our times including legends Dr. Balamurali Krishna, Dr. N Ramani, Dr T V gopalakrishnan and Sri. Umayalpuram K Sivaraman Sri Srimushnam Raja Rao, Mandolin Srinivas, Sri T V Sankaranarayanan, Mrs Chitra Visveswaran, Dr Alarmel Valli and many others. He is also involved in many collaborative projects featuring musicians from different genres and styles. His adherence to purity and tradition has helped him carve a niche for himself as a teacher of an exceptional quality and excellence.

ABOUT
One of the leading percussionists of India, a “GANDA BANDH” sagird of the legendary Tabla Maestro Pt. Shankar Ghosh, Subrata is an accomplished and versatile Tabla player. He is a soloist and an accompanist as well.

Subrata is a regular artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra (Kolkata). 
He is also a well-recognized and much wanted accompanist by most of the leading musicians and prestigious classical soirees all over the country like The Dover Lane Music Conference, West Bengal State Music academy, Baba Alauddin Sangeet Samaroh (Kolkata), All India Music Festival, Nabarang Music Festival, Salt Lake City Conference, Sangeet Piyasi Music Conference, Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, Baroda Music Festival (Gujrat), Kal Ki Kalakaar (Mumbai) and so many.
Subrata is equally accomplished as a Guru. He has trained hundreds of students from all over the nation in his music academy Dhyan School of Performing Arts. Also, he is one of the faculty members of Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts, Kolkata.

Mridangam is a South Indian Percussion instrument, a vital part of both music concerts and dance recitals. Our resident Mridangam Guru is offering 3 unique courses useful to both instrumentalists and dancers.
MRIDANGAM COURSE – This course is open to beginners and advanced students, and is a brilliant opportunity to learn the nuances of playing the instrument in an intensive environment. Learn the basics of tala structure, rhythm accent, rhythm syllables, variations, creativity in composing, and the aspects of Laya (tempo – 3 speeds). For advanced students, you will also get an insight into the formula to composing endlessly in the Pancha jathi talas – the 5 principal rhythms patterns.

USTAD MEHBOOB NADEEM 

ABOUT
Born into a highly illustrious family of traditional musicians of the Agra Gharana, Mehboob is the grandson of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan (Pranpiya) and Gayan Samrat Ustad Azmat Hussain Khan (Dilrang).

Endowed with a rich melodious and sonorous voice, Mehboob was initiated in the art of music at a very young age by his father Ustad Yakub Hussain. He then began his sitar training under the guidance of his uncle Shri Rafat Khan. He is now under the guidance of world renowned sitar maestro Pandit Arvind Parikh.

A gifted artist, Mehboob possesses a keen, aesthetic sense and a matured ability in the development and rendering of a raga. Under the devoted teaching of his Guru and mentor Pandit Arvind Parikh he has excelled in perfecting the techniques and style of the legendary sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan. He is a widely-respected sitar player who is acknowledged as one of the most accomplished of the present generation of the Vilayatkhani Gharana and is known to be one of the best sitar players in the UK.

His performances are truly unique & inspiring and have enthralled audiences in India and abroad. He is regularly called to perform throughout India, Africa, Europe and the UK.

ABOUT
Smt. Indu Barot has a master’s in Sanskrit and in Computer Science. She writes poetry, articles and stories, and is also a translator of Hindi, Sanskrit ad English works. She is the resident teacher for Hindi language at The Bhavan.

ANVI PRABHU

ABOUT
Anvi Prabhu, hailing from a family of artists and scholars, is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist skilled in theatre, film-making, literature, visual arts, and dance. She has extensive acting training in India and the UK and was awarded a talent development residency at London Performance Studios for 2024.

Anvi's debut one-woman play, "SIX POUNDS FOR DUST," premiered at the Indie Summer Festival in Camden in 2023. She also starred in "NIL BY SEA" at Kibo Productions' Reboot Festival and had a lead role in a Channel 4 TV pilot in 2021. She appeared in the dance film "UNSKIN" (2019) and several Kannada TV soaps, including the acclaimed "Mukta."

Founder-director of MID-LIGHT PRODUCTIONS, Anvi has directed three dance films. A National Award-winning Bharatanatyam dancer, she has over 20 years of experience in performing, teaching, and choreography, which enhances her acting performances. Anvi is a graduate of the London Actors Workshop and has been trained by senior theatre artists Nataraj Honnavalli and Gopal Krishna Naire.

ABOUT THE COURSE
This is an introductory intensive drama and acting course which focuses on emoting through the body, face, and text.
With a specific focus on the methodologies of the Natyashastra along with a basic introduction to Western techniques, participants will learn to immerse and emote various characters and scenes using group and individual exercises.
Scripts and monologues will be provided.

Open to all over 16 years with an interest in theatre and acting.
Suitable for beginners and intermediate learners.

ANVI PRABHU

ABOUT
Hailing from a family of artists and scholars, Anvi Prabhu is an award winning multidisciplinary artist with a practice across the fields of theatre/acting, film-making, literature, visual arts, and dance.

Anvi holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts specialising in Painting (Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore), and an MA in Fine Arts from Chelsea college of Art and Design, London. 
She has shown her works in several shows across the UK, USA and India including the Grimsby festival (UK); Graceful Arts centre (Alva, USA); Art cube gallery (London), for which she was also shortlisted for an inaugural award; and most recently at 'Unbound Perspectives' multidisciplinary exhibition in London.
She has been the Artist- in residence at the Tamara confluence (Coorg, India); North Western Oklahoma State University (USA); The Art Students' League of New York (USA) with a merit scholarship; and the International Network of Culture and Arts at Somerset (UK).

Her main practice is with drawing and painting, and  she uses both figurative and abstract elements in her works.

ABOUT THE COURSE
This is an in introductory drawing course which is suitable for beginners (Over 14 years of age). Through various exercises, the course will guide students on the basic elements of drawing  and composition.
Basic materials of pencils, sketchbook will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials and mediums as well.
