The Bhavan is pleased to announce YATRA 2025, our annual festival celebrating the
talents in Indian classical dance, music and instruments practicing in the UK.
The festival will be held in February 2025. We are now accepting applications for the same.

RULES
1. This year we are calling artists in the following age group categories. Please
tailor your applications according to the age group and specify them in your
application. The same teacher/choreographer can apply for either one or any
two of the age groups: 6-16 years; 17 – 25 years; 26 and above

 2. Genres – Indian classical dance, music, instruments. We will have a separate
strand for folk forms of India. Please note, no fusion or contemporary allowed for this festival.
3. Only group applications with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 participants will be considered.

 4. Time limit – maximum 8 minutes.

 5. THEME – We do not have a specific theme for the festival. However, we are looking for new approaches to choreographies and compositions. We are very much interested in discovering fresh perspectives of the traditional repertoires and compositions; whether it is exploring poetry of different languages in Indian classical music, a new way of rendering a classical Keerthanam,
enhancing the nritta or abhinaya nuances of a piece, looking at an alternative way of presenting a composition through an instrument, or any other way of approaching the classical forms without diluting the classical language and idiom. The above examples are only for your guidance and are not exhaustive. We are looking to discover new creativities within the classical genre, and we want to know your individual perspectives and showcase them in this festival.

  6. The deadline for receiving applications is FRIDAY 25th OF OCTOBER. Selected applicants will be informed by the 31st of October.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Please send your applications with the following details:
1. Age group. (6-16 years, 17 – 25 years, 26 and above). Please note the same
teacher/choreographer can apply for either one or any two of the age groups.

 2. Approximate number of performers.

 3. Approximate time limit (we understand this might change in due course as some of you will apply with new ideas. Please do mention an approximate time limit within the stipulated 8 minutes).

 4. A full synopsis of your idea and what you envision to present. Please make sure that your brand new approach and perspective to your classical idiom is clearly stated.

 5. Please mention if this is an already created piece and if this has been performed anywhere else, or if you are creating/choreographing a brand new piece. This will not hinder your selection, it is only for our understanding.

 6. A video clipping of the full piece if it exists. Please do not stress if this is a new piece. In this case, a short 3 minute rehearsal bit of the proposal will be acceptable.
